Secure Your Own Community

Despite our collective best efforts against anti-immigrant legislation, chances are that deportations are still going to progress. It’s with this caveat that on May 4th, 2012, we launched the NIYA Secure Your Own Community (SYOC) project. We firmly believe that any individual can stop his/her deportation with a little bit of organizing.

The project works to teach everyday community members how to fight their own deportation cases in an effort to really de-centralize who and how we fight to stop a deportation. By fighting their own deportation, we intend to teach the community the basics of organizing while at the same time  highlighting the number of low-priority deportations still taking place. We hope that after the community takes on an actual case then they can go on to stop other deportations.

If you need guidance on a case contact us here: syoc@theniya.org

If you would like to host a 2-day SYOC training please email Dulce Guerrero dulce@theniya.org. Trainings are typically held for groups of 15 to 25 people over the course of 2-days.
